Sick of hearing all this buzz about Kuku's on Burnside opening a buffet?
Yes, well so am I.
Nonetheless, here's an update letting you know they STILL have not opened, but this time with a picture showing decals placed on the windows of what looks to be the area for their restaurant/buffet.
Does anyone else think the guy in their logo belongs at an Italian restaurant?
Just Saying.
Oh and look for a new review up later tonight.

I ride by this place on the way home from work every night, and have been watching their progress happen very slowly. You gotta think that the owners are probably doing much of the work themselves when not working in the restaurant. On Tuesday night, they were blowing in some insulation, so are making progress!!
Great to hear, Matt!
Thanks for letting us know.
Hi there, I have been a frequent customer of theirs as well and asked what the hold up was... The owner said that it has been a slow process because of city permits and all but apologized quite sincerely for the delay. They just recently got the go- ahead and are working on renovating the buffet side.
Good gawd it had better open soon! Their butter chicken puts Sabri's to shame!
Hi again,
I rode by last night and saw a five ton cube van unloading numerous smallwares, obviously for the buffet. Glasses, glass racks, cases of plate ware, etc. This meanas they are setting up for service, and construction/finishing is complete!!! I bet they will be receiving food and putting final touches on the place for opening next weekend. Is the food any good? I love Indian, but can't seem to go anyplace besides Da Tandoor. Sabri's Naanwich is good, but I'd stay away from the restaurant ....
I will be riding by there in about 20 minutes, I'll let you know if I see anything interesting.
So the other night I was riding by and saw some staff leaving. I turned around, and asked when the buffet was set to open. The gentleman replied "in about a month, we have the permit already" which is great news. The truck I saw earlier in the week? Just getting ready for some catering. They did 450 people that night. Catering will continue to be a good portion of their business I suspect. I will be trying some of their food this week, finally!!!
Great updates, Matt!
I hope their given timeline is true as I will be on my way back to Ontario in a little over a month.
The wife and I got some take out from Kuku's last night. We went with the $20 family special, which is way too small for a family, but great for 2 people with a little left over for lunch. But for $20, a great deal. It consists of four vegetable samosas, two naan, one butter chicken, one rice and a small dessert, some sort of deep fried dough covered in syrup. First off, all of the food was piping hot, which is really nice to see for takeout. Leads me to believe that hot holding temperatures are being met. The food was too hot for my wife to take out of the bag with her bare hands - when's the last time you had that experience with takeout chinese?
The samosas were very nicely filled with the usual peas, potatoes, etc. THe rice was just like it's supposed to be, and the butter chicken was cubes of breast meat in a medium spiced sauce. The meat was well cooked (not dry or tough) and the sauce was excellent. Creamy without being greasy, dark in colour without being too orange like some places. I have always found Spice Jammer to be too oily, preferring Da Tandoor for their lighter approach. From this limited comparison, the curry was on par with what I have had before from Da Tandoor. That is to say, excellent. The naan was good, although I prefer a little more char on mine, and could have eaten two more! The dessert was odd, and tasted exactly how it sounds. We didn't eat it all. Maybe served warm this would have been a better dish. Everything was well seasoned, hot and fresh and the price was fair. What more could you ask for (besides a buffet)?
As an aside, my daughter is allergic to peanuts and although she was not with us last night, my wife took the time to ask for future reference and it turns out one of the staff is also allergic to peanuts and also carries an epi pen and can eat everything there. For our family, that means repeat business.
