Its a very simple, low quantity item buffet that doesn't bite off more than it can chew, and its managed by an older Indian couple. The man does the dishes and serves the drinks while the woman cooks the food in the back and occasionally makes an appearance with a fresh batch of Naan bread or tandoori chicken.

The Pakoras were cooked thinly and were very crunchy, though a tad old. I don't think it really mattered because I really enjoyed them. It was like eating Pakora chips.
Among the casual tandoori chicken pieces and naan bread, were beef curry, dahl and some other runny Indian dishes that I can't remember the name of. All I know is that it all soaks up nicely in the naan, which was refilled twice while we were dining. We were only one of two tables seated around 7 P.M, so it was nice to see the humble buffet being refilled. These people put the Raymonds on Admirals to shame.

Mango chutney and Raita were the shining stars of the topping section. The raita is great when spread on-top of any of the dishes, and cools down any spice that may try to kick your ass. The mango chutney was sweet and delicious, especially when mixed with the raita and beef curry.

The tandoori chicken was a little salty but the pieces were as tender as ribs. There was also jasmine rice. The naan was soft, chewy and fresh out of the oven.
All in all it is a low cost buffet that offers a few tasty items, but it is no better than any other Indian buffet that I have tried. When compared to Sabri's on Tillicum, it loses marks on selection but gains marks with atmosphere. It also lacks the pungent body odor that permeates Sabri. If your starving downtown and on a tight budget, this is one of the places to be. Maharaja's low selection and average creativity item wise, makes it an otherwise average stop, but its humble price-tag allows you to forgive them. Plus I guarantee you'd rather give your money to this place than some other lackadaisical-garbage buffet like Raymonds, Chinese City and especially Wings (review coming soon!).
